Front Desk Receptionist

Full or Part Time Non-Exempt

Performs various duties involving appointment scheduling, transcription, typing, record and file maintenance, mail distribution, telephone reception, and special projects. Responsible for providing support for one or more persons. Frequently interacts with Providers, Nurses, and Medical Assistants.

Responsibilities

• Answer multi-line phones.
• Schedule and confirm patient appointments.
• Facilitate patient check-in and check-out. Schedule follow-up appointments.
• Explain payment options to patients, including sliding scale fees, and other forms of payment assistance.
• Collect payments and prepare deposits.
• Post patient payments/coding and enter patient charges.
• Initiate and maintain confidential patient files and records.
• Perform data entry for patient information.
• Process medical records requests.
• Other duties and special projects as required.

Required Skills

• Working knowledge of scheduling and billing formats.
• Able to understand and follow directions.
• Capable of communicating effectively with patients and the health care team, including the ability to
explain billing procedures to patients.
• Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and health care team.
• Must respect the confidential nature of medical information.
• Working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Capable of following established departmental procedures.
• Capable of using experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
• Good computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Able to read and interpret documents such as charts, safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Proficiency in the use of basic math skills.
• Professional manner and appearance.
• Emotional and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.
• Ability to sit for long periods of time.

Education & Experience

• Requires a minimum of a high school diploma.
• A minimum of 1-year experience as a Front Desk or Medical Administrative Assistant.
