History of Samaritan Health Ministries.
Originally incorporated in 1990 as Hill Country Medical Ministries, volunteer physicians recognized the need for healthcare to be accessible to all. These compassionate providers cared for our uninsured neighbors for eight years before revitalizing the organization and changing the name to Samaritan Health Ministries in 1999.
Poverty in Texas is more pronounced than in the nation as a whole, with as much as 20 percent of the state’s population living without health insurance and 15 percent living below the federal poverty levels. Despite the perceived affluence in Williamson and Travis counties, there are still numerous individuals who constitute the working poor. They need geographically convenient medical assistance in order to continue working and providing for their families.
For more than 19 years, Samaritan Health Ministries has provided quality healthcare to thousands of people in need in the Greater Williamson and northwest Travis County areas. Today, families need Samaritan Health Ministries more than any other time in the history of the clinic.
